Hearing and Seeing Musical Stories

  • New York Public Library 455 5th Avenue New York, NY, 10016 United States (map)

Join us for a music, art and storytelling workshop where we will listen for musical stories and learn about why we hear the stories we do!

During this interactive workshop, we will introduce audience members to music theory concepts and learn how to listen for musical stories by drawing and building what we hear and see. Everyone will receive markers, paper, and other arts and craft materials to make their stories come to life. Then, we’ll share the story that we heard in the music through modern dance:

Each day, a shy artist visits her favorite park to sketch her beautiful surroundings. When she notices a girl on a bench across from her, she lets her mind wander. Will she gather the courage to talk to her, or will they only dance in her daydreams? Listen along as the violin and piano bring to life a charming, art-inspired romance.
